Grassroots Coverage of the March on Washington

Our "Web 2.0" world has provided new ways of documenting and sharing our collective displays of dissent. Over the last five years, the internet has been a crucial organizing tool for many of the local and national actions against the occupation of Iraq (yes, it's been that long since the drums started beating and we started to take to the streets about Iraq), but none of our national mobilizations have been covered so comprehensively by the actions' own participants - and shared in such an easily accessible way - as the most recent March on Washington to End the War (and corresponding Grassroots Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill) in January 2007.

Click the links below for some collections of photos and video by the demonstrators. This is just a tiny sampling of the grassroots coverage of the actions, feel free to suggest more...

March on Washington on FlickR - 3,000 photos from activists across the country

Diane Greene Lent's digital gallery of the March on Washington

March on Washington (and related actions) on YouTube - 80 videos

C-SPAN coverage of the entire rally (requires RealPlayer) - ok so not exactly grassroots-produced, but it's so rare we get c-span coverage - had to share!

March for Peace on FaceBook - small-ish group, but great album of close-ups from the rally
(there were also several myspace groups but i decline to promote ruport murdoch products)

P.S. If these images inspires you to ask when we will gather again in creative resistance - please mark your calendar and start spreading the word for the March 24th Stop the War demonstration on Boston Common, marking four years since the invasion of Iraq. And if you can't wait till then, check out the Occupation Project, endorsed by Peace Action, and happening now in local congressional offices in Mass. and across the country.

peace :)

If the existing crises we've in which we've mired ourselves weren't enough, we're quickly on our way to a much more explosive disaster.
